Abstract
The widening participation agenda in the UK higher education system aims to promote equality of opportunity throughout the student lifecycle. Higher education providers have been challenged to set ambitious targets around student diversity within aspects of the student lifecycle, however small specialist degree providers (SSDPs) experience greater challenges in achieving ambitious targets, specifically with regards to ethnic homogeneity on many campuses. Exploration of the challenges faced by UK SSDPs and an overview of current activity is provided within this chapter, facilitated by the use of qualitative data from an online survey distributed to SSDPs in the summer of 2021. Seemingly, these degree providers need to undergo a large scale cultural shift to enable achievement of ambitious targets.
