N2 - Microbial infection is a broad topic that covers infections in humans from bacterial, fungus and viruses, for this book chapter specific examples from each of these genera will be given, but of course there are many more microbial infections that could highlighted. Microbes include bacteria, viruses, parasites and fungus, together these are responsible for infections in human and animals, these can range from topical skin issues, wound healing problem, can be associated with medical devices such as implants, viral infections such as those seen with the common cold and flu and other bacterial associated infections such as those seen with food poisoning and as with all infections there are varying levels of severity, which are both host and pathogen dependent. There are host dependent factors that can affect the severity of the infection and the host's immune response can be delayed or altered.
