Activities per year
Abstract
Outdoor and Adventurous Activities (OAA) are somewhat of a vague concept on the Key Stage Two National Curriculum for Physical Education (NCPE), with many of the teachers equating it to PGL experiences, orienteering and forest school (Sharples, 2017). However, OAA is, and should be, so much more. OAA experiences give opportunities for children to overcome personal barriers, enhance their self-esteem and develop a love and engagement for sports and adventurous activities in the outdoors (Coldrey, 2015; Pickering, 2016). In this paper, the authors argue that OAA should be viewed as a philosophy for Physical Education (PE), rather than a set of activities.
