Care bundle development for neonatal foal nursing.

Research output: Contribution to journalJournal Articlepeer-review

Abstract

The use of care bundles facilitates the practical application of evidence-based practice and in human-centred healthcare is commonly associated with improved patient outcomes. There is some evidence for the successful application of care bundles in veterinary practice, although the research into their use is limited.
The wider use of care bundles in veterinary practice could standardise care and empower staff to take responsibility for delivering nursing interventions. Neonatal foal nursing is an example of an area where the development of care bundles would be advantageous.
To optimise concordance, all team members should be involved in the development of new care bundles. Veterinary staff often have limited capacity for non-clinical tasks, this can be a barrier to care bundle development. Collaboration with other industry professionals, such as academics, and the sharing of care bundles amongst practices would streamline the development process, easing the time pressures on individuals.
