Abstract

We are three Higher Education Lecturers at different institutions, connected by our additional casual roles with the Football Association. Despite our varied backgrounds, we share the challenge of balancing academia with FA coach development. This blog explores a key question: Are we effectively capturing the impact of these hybrid roles?

In the intersection of academia and football, we face a challenge familiar to many in Further and Higher Education: linking industry roles to teaching responsibilities. Join us as we reflect on three key questions:

1. How can our industry roles enrich the student experience, and how do we document this?
2. How do these roles enhance institutional reputation and marketisation?
3. How do industry engagements support our professional development, particularly for annual reviews and promotions?

This blog aims to foster connections among colleagues in an increasingly competitive academic environment. We begin with our first question, with our intention to answer these over a series of three blogs. Let the exploration begin!
