Abstract

A whistle stop tour of everything you get on your blood gas analysis. By the end of this 40 minute eCPD tutorial, you’ll (hopefully!) be able to determine the acid-base and whether it’s a respiratory or metabolic cause, with or without compensation. We discuss oxygenation and carbon dioxide and which one is our ventilation indicator. The four big electrolytes, calcium, potassium, sodium and chloride and the causes of highs and lows, and how we treat those. And lastly – why is our lactate high and our glucose low? What do all of these numbers mean! This tutorial is also available as an eCPD Case Study – which includes this tutorial, along with a 20 minute presentation where Lizzie works through various clinical cases, along with further reading articles
