Digital Pedagogy

The adoption of recommendations made in the FELTAG report has meant that our organisations are increasing the delivery of teaching through digital platforms with teaching staff expected to plan and develop digital sessions.

Many of our teachers have never received formal instruction on the changes in pedagogical approach when teaching in a digital environment, and many of us have learned the distinctions through independent experiment. This gives students an inconsistent experience and potentially can have a negative impact on their learning.

Our project is a bespoke project in which the three partners will identify outstanding Teaching and Learning practice within our own organisations and by examining the OFSTED inspection framework for examples of outstanding practice. We will then identify ways in which this outstanding practice can be replicated for delivery in a digital environment.
With the information gathered, we will create an e-learning programme that will be made available to staff throughout the sector to increase awareness of digital pedagogy.

The focus of the project is to help teachers transfer the outstanding practice that occurs in the classroom into the digital domain. The project will identify tools that can help to support this but unlike other projects, we will focus on developing understanding of digital pedagogy more than developing digital skills.

We have created a fantastic e-learning SCORM programme that informs, educates and inspires FE teaching staff about the use of digital tools and technology within teaching and learning. The programme works on PCs, Laptops and Tablets and can be worked through at the users pace. The programme is free to download and contains a user guide and instructions to help you to add it to your organisation’s VLE.
