Overview
Thomas is Deputy Head of School (Sport, Equine and Performance Sciences) and Head of Department Business and Management at Hartpury University, and a 2023 Collaboration Award for Teaching Excellence (CATE) winner through the creation of the Hartpury Sports Business Hub.
Research interests predominantly centres around Sport Coaching, specifically the utilisation of humour, coaching pedagogy, significant coaching moments and high performance coaching. More recently interests have focused on practitioner development, specifically the use of coaching in higher education. This has included a successful Teaching & Learning bid to evaluate the use of teaching observation within higher education, where findings were presented to the Higher Education Academy and impacted the internal teaching observation mechanisms within Hartpury University.
Practically, Thomas is a qualified Rugby Union coach working within the Elite Rugby Academy at Hartpury University, managing performance and development within the British Universities and Colleges competitions.
