Personal profile

Overview

Following graduation from Royal Holloway, University of London, in 1996 with a BA (Hons) in Drama and Theatre Studies I spent 16 years in the Royal Air Force, working with national and international agencies supporting operations in the UK and abroad as an Aerospace Battle Manager. Later, I followed my passion for horses to qualify as an Intelligent Horsemanship Recommended Trainer, coaching and supporting horse owners to understand their animals. To support this I gained my MSc, Equine Behaviour, Performance and Training through University Centre Sparsholt. While studying I completed two projects: a pilot study exploring positive states indicative of preparedness to work during equine warm-up and an investigation into a means of improving student understanding of and attitude towards Equidae on animal management courses. Staying at Sparsholt, I joined the Additional Learning Support team, providing individualised support to students on equine, sport, public service and animal pathways. At the same time I began a part time PhD investigating human compassion towards animals through the University of Portsmouth, which is ongoing. I joined the team at Hartpury as a Junior Lecturer, HE Equine, in 2023.
