Between 2023 and 2024 I managed research into carnivore biodiversity in Europe, starting in Northern Italy. I aimed to discover the presence or absence of species, intraguild interactions of small and mesocarnivores, and spatial and temporal preferences of species. The main focal species is European Genets (Genetta genetta) in habitats that they may only recently have dispersed into. Since 2025, I have been researching the habitat use and behaviours of Pine Marten (Martes martes) in Wiltshire, England. This project will run until at least 2026, I am open to collaborating with other projects on other species in the region that might link with my research findings, please email me if you wish to have more details.
Previously, I researched the behavioural ecology and captive animal welfare of small carnivoran mammals in South Africa and Indonesia completing my Masters and PhD studies on Large Spotted Genets (Genetta tigrina) and Asian Palm Civets (Paradoxurus musangus / P. hermaphroditus). I continue to be involved in highlighting the welfare infringements for civets in the pet trade and in production of Kopi luwak (civet coffee) in Indonesia.
I am a member of the IUCN SSC Small Carnivore Specialist Group and within this the Civet Working Group. I aim to carryout more research on small and mesocarnivores expecially Viverridae and Mustelidae in the future.
My current publications are:
Anthropology & Geography, PhD, The Asian palm civet : fundamental baseline findings in ecology, captive husbandry and effects of trade in civet coffee
