Overview
Dr. Laurence Protheroe is a senior lecturer in Sports Biomechanics within the Department of Sport. His main research interest is on the inter-segmental coordination, movement variability in relation to injury prevention and student learning in biomechanics.
Research interests
Laurence's research interests align with the Sport departments' Athlete performance and wellbeing priority area. Recent interests have centered on injury prevention, particularly within youth and female athlete populations. Laurence is interested in the role of movement variability in injury prevention and in inter-segment coordination in relation to injury and performance.
Current teaching
Laurence leads and teaches on the undergraduate biomechanics modules and leads the Sport research and knowledge exchange project module.
External positions and memberships
Laurence is a member of the International Society of Biomechanics in Sport, British Association of Sport & Exercise Sciences and is a senior fellow of Advance HE. He is an external examiner at Liverpool John Moores University and University of Chichester. He has previously been external examiner for the University of Sunderland and the University of Central Lancashire.
