Overview

Izzy has taught across higher and further education within the veterinary nursing department since starting in August 2016. She is a registered veterinary nurses with clinical experience across equine, mixed and small animal practice. Her current role include lecturing across several modules such as, diagnostics, ethical breeding and volunteering. She is also an academic personal tutor and programme manager for the Diploma an professional studies students. 

Izzy has a MRes in Animal Behaviour and Welfare from Hartpury and a BSc (Hons) Equine Veterinary Nursing Science degree from the Universtity of the West of England. She has also completed a PGCHE and is a fellow of Higher Education Academy. 

Previously, Izzy has presented her research at the BVNA (British Veterinary Nursing Association) Congress, discussing the occurrence of hypothermia post-operatively in horses. She has also supported several students through this process at Congress.

Her main areas of interest for future research include:

  • Exploring animal behaviour in a veterinary setting and identify fear free practice and progressive methods of behavioural management, including how patient and owner support could be improved. 
  • Ethical breeding development of companion animals, with a focus on welfare, health and genetic inheritiance
  • International welfare organisations 
  • Diagnostic imaging, include the use of advanced modalities.
