Overview

Miss Emma Davies, Senior Lecturer in Rider Performance & Programme Manager BSc (Hons) Equestrian Sports Science at Hartpury University.

 

Research interests

Research interests include psychology of injury in equestrian sport, psychological demands of horse riders,  general rider performance, and demands on horse racing stable staff. 

Currently working on research studying the impact of COVID-19 on staff in horse racing, the psychological antecedents of injury in stable staff, and the use of corticosteroid injections in competition horses.

Membership to Equine Performance Research Centre, member & Convenor for Human-Equine Interaction Community of Practice. 

Manuscript Reviewer for The Sport Psychologist, and abstract reviewer for Alltech-Hartpury, ISES, and UKESC conferences. Presentation reviewer for BASES conference. 

Co-Collaborator and presenter for Key Stage 3 workshops on anatomy & physiology at Cheltenham Science Festival. Assistant presenter for Large Animal dissection demo also held at Science Festival. 

Organize Pony Club & Pony Racing workshops to offer fitness and position advice to young children entering pony racing. Led workshops for Pony Club camps on rider fitness.

Support British Dressage workshops, including regional para-dressage and dressage training days, and BD South West Little Leg Up series.

 

Current teaching

Currently teaching modules across levels 4 - 6, specializing in horse & rider performance and equine exercise physiology. 

Supervisory role for Undergraduate and Postgraduate Dissertations. 

Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
