Overview

Clare’s academic background includes Psychology, Animal Behaviour, and Mental Health Counselling. She is currently on the board of trustees and in the Research, Conference and Animal Assisted Services/Education (AAS/Ed) working groups for the Society for Companion Animal Studies (SCAS), and on the board of directors and chair of the Scientific Advisory Council for (HHRF). 
She believes strongly in integrating research and practice to enhance professionalism and is a member of the International Association of Human Animal Interaction Organisations/Animal Assisted Services International (IAHAIO/AASI) Task Forces for terminology and provider education, IAHAIO Policy/Research working group, and is an Equine Assisted Services Partnership (EASP) Human-Equine Interaction Register (HEIR) evaluator. She was on the board of directors and chair of the ISAZ 2024 Conference committee (held at Hartpury), was a subject matter expert for Pet Partners’ Association for Animal Assisted Intervention Practitioners (AAAIP) helping develop the examination for their Certified Animal Assisted Intervention Specialist (C-AAIS) qualification, was on the Equine Facilitated Mental Health Association EFMHA board of directors, and content reviewed 2 books on Clinical Practice in EAS. While in the US, Clare volunteered with youth STEM education, domestic violence and grieving children’s non-profit organisations and ran a 70-acre multi-species diversified educational farm. Clare’s research focuses on ensuring best practices and optimal wellbeing for both humans and animals within HAI/AAS.
