Stories of Change: Documenting social change to promote physical activity

Activity: Talk or presentation typesInvited talk

Description

This presentation will explore how to use innovative, qualitative, realist-informed methods in the form of Stories of Change to evaluate how to implement an Asset Based-Community Approach within a disadvantaged area. We will draw upon the different stakeholders, the school, the council, the police, and the community developer to disseminate underpinning realist-informed theory to applied audiences. Based on previous evaluation findings that brought together multiple organisations within the Essex region, we constructed a complex "Story of Change" that represents how change can effectively be implemented across multiple contexts. We then produced a video documentary to enhance dissemination to applied audiences. Thus, we demonstrate how qualitative research, if used rigorously, can be utilised to evidence complex social theory, which often is difficult to disseminate and capture.
