Description
The Research in Professional Practice module on the BA Sports Business Management programme is a relatively recent edition, included to provide students a business-specific opportunity to learn about the research process. This presentation will be a discussion between the Sports Business Management programme lead, Michael Green, who has experienced the course before and after the introduction of this module, and then the current teaching team, Alex Kay, who is leading this course for the third year, and Verity Postlethwaite, who is delivering on this module for the first time. The aim of this presentation is to reflect on the value this module has to the broader programme, notably the ability of students to evidence and justify their practical ideas and successfully navigate a number of applied assessment points in modules at level five and six. Research in Sports Business Management is inherently multi-disciplinary and influenced by industry and academic voices on what makes ‘good’ research. As we work towards being accredited by the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity and the Digital Marketing Institute, this presentation will serve to discuss ideas with colleagues across departments on Research in Professional Practice’s current state of play!
We will deliver a 15-minute presentation, five minutes each. Following this, we will open the room out to a 15-minute discussion for any questions or thoughts on the points we’ve raised. These will include considerations of:
- the role of technology and industry voices in enhancing the next step in shaping and delivering the module.
- The potential for further synergy or collaboration with other research process modules, resources or programmes across campus.
- the importance of personal research when delivering the module and impact it has on the student experience.
