Principles of interactive teaching in university: Student engagement and inclusion

Activity: Talk or presentation typesOral presentation at Conference

Description

This session will look at how an interactive approach to lecturing, and questioning can be used in a range of university environments to include all students within the learning process. The idea of the session is to look at the practicalities of using questioning and interactive approaches to include a diverse range of students within the learning process, without disadvantaging those with specific needs or learning differences.

The underpinning ideas presented will look at how teaching staff can identify appropriate approaches to engage students and enable them to answer questions that are appropriate and purposeful in relation to the intended outcomes of the teaching session. Effective design of interactive teaching sessions should enable students to be formatively assessed, provide feedback, and to be stimulated intellectually, therefore, enhancing their learning experiences.
