Designing for learning transfer: evaluating a coach development portfolio

This presentation reported on the evaluation of a season-long coach development portfolio delivered by the Hartpury Coaching Centre, designed to support coaches with varying levels of experience. Using surveys and follow-up interviews, the study explored how coaches engage with professional development, what they value in learning experiences, and how effectively learning transfers into practice. Findings highlighted the importance of practical application, observation, collaboration, contextualisation, and opportunities to apply learning in real-world coaching environments. The project contributes to wider discussions on authentic learning, professional development, and the design of education that bridges the gap between theory and practice.
